Yes, that's quite easy, actually: if you remove the LATEX filter at the beginning of the invoice file and the END  all the way at the bottom, the printed returned document won't be transformed through PDFLATEX, but instead the expanded pdflatex source document will be downloaded. That should help you debug any template expansion problems.
